V Selvaganesh is a son of Ghatam master TH Vinayakram and is a master of the kanjira, a small hand-sized frame drum. He tours with Zakir Hussain's Taal Ensemble as well as with Hussain's Shakti.
The kanjira is played with the right hand with the left occasionally bending the pitch like the duggi drum which accompanies a tabla. The pitch of the kanjira is deceptive for its size because the lizard skin is wet during performance giving it a deep resonance. The kanjira is a Carnatic South Indian drum.
